Rhode Island became the first State to publicly commemorate the epidemic loss of life associated with drug use and overdose. In the past 5 years alone over 1,300 Rhode Islanders have passed away, changing life in entire communities over night. Overdose kills more Rhode Islanders than car crashes, fires, gun crime, homicide and suicide, combined.
Hosted by the historic First Baptist Church in America, the first ever memorial for victims of overdose, a weeping Alaskan willow tree, was consecrated by interfaith prayer, wisdom, and music. The tree will be dedicated and planted on August 31st, International Overdose Awareness Day. Stay tuned for more information on the location for this interfaith celebration.
